George R.R. Martin Has The Best Blog About The Jets And The Giants

The Game of Thrones writer is a dedicated fan of the game of throws.

If you've ever shielded your eyes while watching Game of Thrones and cursed the man who created the show, just know that he, too, is shielding his eyes every Sunday while watching another onscreen struggle: The New York Jets attempting to play football.

Even a man who’s built a career on imagining the unimaginable was shocked by the Jets’ 20-13 win over the Steelers last Sunday. Here’s a couple highlights from this week’s recap:

"I woke up this morning expecting a long day of pain in front of the television. The Jets were playing the Pittsburgh Steelers and their red-hot quaterback, Big Ben, and the Giants were facing the world champion Seattle Seahawks."

But in the grand tradition of being a Jets fan, Martin went quickly back to cynicism:

For the moment, I will enjoy the win, and wonder what might have happened if Rex had only benched Geno Smith earlier. (I was distressed to see Geno back as second string, and Matt Simms inactive. Simms showed more in his brief appearance last week than Geno has all season). Some good play there by Percy Harvin, Erik Decker, and Chris Ivory. And the D line. Gang Green DOES have some good players, if only they could get a quarterback.

Giants Pitcher Jake Peavy Will Buy A Cable Car And Turn It Into A Bar

The man does love his commemorative novelty vehicles.

In 2013, Jake Peavy bought a duck boat to celebrate the Red Sox winning the World Series.

Peavy apparently has not done anything with the boat, which his son says is now parked in Alabama and covered in mildew.

Peavy will continue the tradition by purchasing a cable car to celebrate his 2014 World Series win with the Giants. After shipping it to Alabama, Peavy will turn it into a mobile bar, TMZ reports.

FYI, a standard cable car interior is approximately 12 ft x 6 ft.

Peavy is now a free agent, so if he wins a third consecutive World Series with a new team, he might be able to start a novelty vehicle franchise.

No Domestic Assault Charges For San Francisco 49ers' Ray McDonald

The Santa Clara, Calif. District Attorney’s Office said there’s insufficient evidence to charge the defensive end.

San Francisco 49ers defensive end Ray McDonald will not get felony domestic violence charges for an incident that took place at his home in August.

In a memo released by the Santa Clara District Attorney's Office on Monday, the decision was explained as a result of "conflicting versions of the incident, a lack of verifiable eyewitnesses, and a significant lack of cooperation by [McDonald's fianceé], left investigators uncertain exactly what happened."

The incident began when one of McDonald's guests told his fianceé that there were women getting "too friendly" with McDonald, according to the memo. The fianceé confronted the women, and McDonald then "called her names, indicated that she was an unfit mother, and threatened to take her baby."

The fianceé was 10 weeks pregnant at the time.

There's conflicting accounts about what happened next , according to the DA memo:

At some point they ended up on the couch. Jane Doe said McDonald threw her on the couch. McDonald said they fell on the couch. McDonald tried to remove Jane Doe from the home forcibly. At one point he grabbed her neck, resulting in visible injury. Jane Doe said she was "fighting back," physically resisting McDonald's efforts to pull her out of the house. Jane Doe said she tried to push McDonald off of her. Jane Doe was able to free herself. McDonald said he let go.

McDonald called Sgt. Sean Pritchard, a San Jose Police Department officer who at the time worked security for 49ers home games in nearby Santa Clara. McDonald's fianceé called 911.

When the cops arrived, the fianceé told officers she did not want McDonald to be arrested, but they "[determined] that probable cause existed to believe that McDonald was the dominant aggressor and that his conduct had resulted in visible injury to Jane Doe."

Oakland Raiders To Discuss Possible Move From California To Texas With San Antonio Officials

The San Antonio Express-News reports the city will attempt to sell the team on relocating to Texas.

The Oakland Raiders need a new home, and San Antonio is ready to present their case.

The San Antonio Express-News reports "governmental and civic leaders headed by former Mayor Henry Cisneros" will travel to the Bay Area Friday to give the Oakland-based team their best sales pitch.

The A's have signed a 10-year deal at the Coliseum while they work out their battles for rights to market space with the San Francisco Giants. If the Raiders do decide to build a new stadium on the land that currently houses O.co Coliseum, the A's would also have to find a new home.

The San Antonio Express-News reports the Raiders have visited the Alamodome and "have deemed [it] as an NFL-ready facility."

Richard Perez, head of the San Antonio Chamber of Commerce said in September: "They've seen the crowds, they've seen the tailgating, they have seen the operations and they have been completely taken aback at how well everything is run."
