What the Beatles Could Learn from Wheels On the Buses

Total travel time to and from Wheels on the bus: about four hours.

"The first day I went along to school, I was like, do I want to do this? " Freeman, 18, said. But the ride swiftly became routine, and now Freeman doesn't hesitate to shoot down the notion of trading the two-hour day at the science and technology magnet school for that 10 minutes it would take him so that his local high school.

It once was that students with the longest bus rides were people that have rural addresses. Today, however, more and more of the longest school bus commutes are part of suburban students, willing to put in the time so that you can attend a prestigious magnet institution.

"Oh, I think it's worth it, " said Freeman, a older at Thomas Jefferson. "I'm very happy at this school. It's one particular opportunities that comes to maybe a lucky few students. "

Sometimes the size of the trips that students are likely to endure even surprises adults.

"I'll tell you when I felt it -- in that rare occasion when little ones miss the bus, and I am taking them home. I'm contemplating, 'Wow, "' said Montgomery Blair School Principal Phillip Gainous. Long commutes have become routine at the Silver Spring secondary school, one of the largest within Montgomery and home to magnet programs in communications and science that lure students from along the county.

School officials across the region strain to keep regular, in-boundary school bus rides under one hour. But that has no bearing on magnet school commutes, which in turn easily stretch longer. Students figure out how to make the best of the idea: One recent morning, a gang of Thomas Jefferson freshmen huddled around a small light clamped to a math textbook to analyze for a test. Another pupil strummed a guitar. Still others dozed to music from other portable CD players.

Montgomery Blair once offered an associate program that gave far-flung students safe places to settle if the roads were tied up with bad weather or incidents. But the program died out of lack of use, Gainous said. "We don't do that ever again, because the kids are so used to traveling or waiting with the school, " he said. "They only sleep or do their homework. "

Grace Chung, a 15-year-old Thomas Jefferson sophomore, tries to squeeze in most study time on the coach. But she's seen far much more intricate maneuvers: A friend once made a full poster for spirit week, including glitter, during the commute for you to school.

"She had her glue in addition to her glitter. She would pour it on the glue and then pour it last the jar -- I don't think she spilled a single piece of glitter, " she said.

Grace's starting school is Chantilly. Like virtually any traffic-hardened veteran, she separates the woman commuting time into "good targeted traffic days" and "bad traffic days to weeks. "

"Sometimes if traffic is absolutely good, we get there in 8 a. m., " a visit of about a half-hour, Grace said. "And sometimes we make it right before the bell rings" from 8: 30. On a recent icy morning that spawned a multitude of car accidents and backups, Grace managed to get to school at 9: 25.

She sees the positives. "You make a lot of friends on the bus. I can take homework that I don't discover how to do and say, 'Here, aid me. ' There's some math whizzes around the bus. It's like study corridor. "

In Prince William Region, 18-year-old Alan Hogan's hour-long bus ride is a lot more like those of old: No magnets school, he just lives within the rural, western part of the particular county. The stars are still bright when Hogan gets about the bus each morning. He attends Stonewall Jackson High school graduation, near Manassas. Prince William is building a high school for western-area pupils, but it won't open until eventually 2004.

Until then, the kids just get used to the journey.

We humans typically balk at being when compared with our animal counterparts, typically because all of us perceive ourselves to get somewhat superior compared to them and for some of us, we struggle to acknowledge the point that we share a number of basic attributes not merely physiologically, but psychologically also. It can possibly be quite fascinating to record after which it witness firsthand this dynamics between pets, the manner through which they respond to certain situations, stimuli as well as other animals. The results are frequently rather humorous especially if we see just how eerily humanlike your conduct is.

The most successful videos are those which show the cats acting within an irritable manner whenever they've been woken up when they've been asleep or where they snatch meals back from another cat or maybe a person whenever which cat or man or women steals it at their store. The reason the particular videos are so funny is because we can actually relate and empathize with the cat, in other words not simply can we understand why they reacted the way they did but also we are able to also agree with just how it acted. Some people thing to funny cat videos and just about any video which attempts make use of animals for comic impact on the basis that it must be abusive, exploitative as well as violates the wildlife rights.

That depends fully on the manner in which the funny cat videos are in reality conducted and saved, as well as the manner in which the cat behaves throughout the video. Thankfully, the steps instructed to obtain successful hilarious cat videos are precisely just like the steps for getting an ethical 1, meaning that there exists a major incentive for that person recording the funny cat videos to ensure they act sensibly.

If you need to be successful with your own funny cat video clips, you need to make sure that the manner where the cats behave is in a natural in addition to realistic one. Whilst it is most likely inevitable that you have got to manipulate the setting and the like to acquire a desired influence, it is important to keep this into a minimum. This is designed for one simple cause: if the hilarious cat videos seem too contrived (and believe in me, it is pretty obvious) then you won't generate the same amount of interest or enjoyment like a video that features a more natural acceleration.

Tom Brady And Roger Goodell Return To Court In Ongoing Deflategate Saga

New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady and NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell will be back in federal court in Manhattan Monday for the third and final hearing in the Deflategate saga.

The case before Judge Richard Berman is a lawsuit brought by the NFLPA for Tom Brady against the NFL that disputes the power with which Commissioner Goodell acted when ruling on the quarterback's appeal of his four-game suspension.

The parties first met in court August 12 - the same day a courtroom sketch artist produced an unflattering rendering of the usually handsome football player. Neither Goodell nor Brady attended a second hearing on August 19 during which Judge Berman said that if the NFL and the NFL Player's Association could not settle the matter, he would issue a decision by September 4 -- that's less than a week before the Patriots kick-off the season against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The judge has required that both Goodell and Brady attend Monday's hearing.

The seven month long deflategate saga started on January 18 when the Patriots were accused of using underinflated balls during the AFC Championship game against the Indianapolis Colts. NFL officials later said they determined that the Patriots' game balls had been deliberately underinflated to give Brady and his teammates a competitive advantage.

Judge Berman has questioned both parties about the footballs but the legal base of the dispute is in power and labor.

After the NFL hired an independent investigator, Ted Wells, who determined that Brady was at least "generally aware" of a scheme to tamper with game-day footballs to gain a perceived competitive advantage, the star quarterback was issued a four game suspension by the league. He appealed the suspension, and the NFLPA asked Commissioner Goodell to recuse himself as arbitrator, which he refused.

Following a 10-hour appeal hearing on June 23 at NFL headquarters on Park Avenue in Manhattan, Goodell upheld Brady's suspension, citing new evidence: During Wells' investigation, Brady refused to turn over his cell phone, claiming privacy concerns, and then it was "destroyed" (which Brady claims is routine). The NFLPA claims Brady was never made aware that he could be punished for not turning over his phone.

After Brady's suspension was upheld, the NFLPA filed a federal lawsuit challenging Goodell's unilateral power as disciplinarian and arbitrator. The NFL claims Goodell is well within his realm of power, citing a clause in the NFL/NFLPA Collective Bargaining Agreement.

During the August 19 hearing, Judge Berman hammered Daniel Nash, the NFL's attorney, with questions about how Brady's final suspension was determined. He also asked him to clarify how many of the four games were for the alleged awareness of supposedly deflated footballs, and how many were for not cooperating with the league investigation.

The NFL did not have an answer that satisfied the Judge, so he asked again: If a player were to be found responsible for tampering game-day footballs, but he did cooperate, how long would he be suspended?

"That would be up to the commissioner's sound judgment," Nash replied.

"I'm a little troubled by that," Judge Berman shot back.

Judge Berman continued to sternly question the NFL on various points of their investigator's independence and the standard of Brady's "general awareness" of wrongdoing, and legal analysts considered the second hearing a good sign for Brady's camp.

However, the judge has said repeatedly that each side of the dispute has obvious strengths and weaknesses that he will take into consideration before returning his ultimate evaluation of Goodell's radius of unilateral power in the NFL — and decision as to when Brady can return to the field.

Inglis urged his followers to visit the One Disease website, calling it an "eye opener". The organisation aims to eliminate preventable diseases from Indigenous communities, focusing first on scabies.

Currently, One Disease is running the #InkForGood campaign, encouraging people to wear a temporary tattoo and donate money to go towards fighting scabies in Indigenous communities.

Inglis joins other prominent Indigenous Australians Samantha Harris and Karla Grant in getting a permanent version of the tattoo.

Inglis's gesture of support for marriage equality comes after the NRL announced its support for the reform in July.

Man Dies After Falling From Upper Deck During Atlanta Braves Game

The man reportedly fell from one level of bleachers to another during a home game at Turner Field against the New York Yankees.

Rescue workers carry an injured fan who fell from the stands at Turner Field Saturday.

After falling during the seventh inning, the man was treated at the scene then taken to an area hospital, the Braves announced on Twitter. However, he later died from his injuries.

The Atlanta Police confirmed the man's death to BuzzFeed News, but said his name had not been released while authorities worked to notify his family. Sgt. Greg Lyons said the man was in his early 60s.

Lyons said investigators at the scene found no indication that foul play was involved.

"It seems to be a tragic accident," Lyons added.

ESPN reported that witnesses saw the man lose his balance while yelling at Alex Rodriguez of the Yankees. The man reportedly then fell about 50 feet onto a lower level.

Look at that thing. It goes left-right-left-right-down. How are you supposed to hit that? The knuckleball is the equivalent to finding a glitch in the Matrix. It's cheating physics. If Dickey was around 200 years ago we'd be burning him at the stake for witchcraft.

How does it work? The short answer: black magic. The medium answer: by throwing the ball with hardly any spin you create a drag force behind the ball that causes it to jolt and shimmy in unpredictable ways. The long answer is here.

They literally committed highway robbery to trade for Josh Donaldson.

Here's what must have happened. One day during the off-season Oakland Athletics general manager Billy Beane (yes, the one played by Brad Pitt in Moneyball) was walking down a dusty country road when he suddenly found himself surrounded by intimidating Blue Jays executives.

The execs forced Beane at knife-point to trade them third baseman Josh Donaldson for a less good, often injured third baseman and a couple B-list prospects.

Donaldson now leads the league in runs batted in and could end up the American League's Most Valuable Player. Oakland is last in the American League.

Now wanted by authorities for the steal of the century, Jays general manager Alex Anthopoulos manages the team through dispatches from his various Central American hiding spots.

Here's The NFL's Blisteringly Accurate New Way To Track Players On The Field

Under every player’s shoulder pad there’s a tiny chip transmitting his location, down to the inch. A look at the tech that could change the game.

NFL

The NFL is rolling out new on-field tracking tools that let it know where its players are, where they're going, how fast they're getting there, and which route they're taking.

That's not surprising. Major league sports aren't just a physical contest — they're a data dump. Statistics fuel bets, fantasy leagues, and armchair coaching; they inform coaching decisions and give fans the opportunity to embed themselves deep into a sport. The NFL, though, has recently introduced an unprecedented level of that data collection.

After testing it last year, as of this season, the upper decks of all 31 NFL stadiums are ringed with sensors, all pointed at the field. They're looking for sensor tags, located under each of the players' shoulder pads, that are capable of live-tracking movements on the field of play. The tracking is extraordinarily accurate — according to Zebra Technologies, which makes the tags, the margin of error is less than six inches. That's a tiny amount, especially when compared to GPS, which is usually only accurate within yards.

Here's what one of the receivers looks like in action at Santa Clara's Levi's Stadium.

Here's what one of the receivers looks like in action at Santa Clara's Levi's Stadium.

Alex Kantrowitz / BuzzFeed

The result is a lot of data. The NFL knows where every player on every team is from the moment he walks out of the locker room on game day — when wireless gate technology activates his tags in the doorway. Once he gets on the field, he's tracked for the duration of the game, the sensors measuring movement, speed, and plays. These statistics are processed by Zebra, then passed to the NFL servers before being parceled out to different broadcast networks, box score providers, and — starting with this year's regular season — Xbox One.

In November 2014, Schilling was involved in another Twitter-related controversy when he argued with fellow ESPN colleague Keith Law about creationism versus evolution. Law, on the side of evolution, was briefly suspended from using Twitter for calling out his colleague on a public forum.

Schilling is best-known for his performance during the 2004 ALCS, during which his injured ankle bled through his sock while he was on the mound. At the end of and after his career as a pitcher, Schilling ran a video game company that borrowed and ultimately lost $75 million from the state of Rhode Island.

Schilling announced early last year that he had been diagnosed with throat cancer, citing smokeless tobacco, which is commonly used by MLB players, as the cause. In August 2014, he announced his cancer was in remission.

Despite being pulled from the Little League assignment, Schilling is expected to make his regular appearance on this week's Sunday Night Baseball broadcast.

A Runner Lost Her Bronze Medal After Celebrating Early And It's Awkward AF

As Huddle threw up her arms in excitement, Emily Infeld leaned into the finish line and beat her. Huddle immediately fell into shock, and told Universal Sports, “Emily was right there the whole time with just more momentum. She got that bronze. It’s going to take a long time to get over."

And to make matters more disappointing, Huddle would have been the first non-African born runner to place in the women’s 10,000 meter race since 2007.

Infeld told Universal Sports she actually felt a little guilty "because I feel like Molly let up a little. I don’t think she realized how close I was. I was just trying to run through the line. I’m really thrilled.”

I guess your track coach was right... It's not ever until you cross that finish line
