Frank Gifford, Football Star And Sportscaster, Dies At 84

The pro-football Hall Of Famer, sports commentator and husband of Kathie Lee Gifford has died of natural causes, according to a family statement.

Frank Gifford, former professional football player, veteran TV sportscaster, and husband to Today co-host Kathie Lee Gifford, has died at age 84.

It is with the deepest sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved husband, father, and friend, Frank Gifford. Frank died suddenly this beautiful Sunday morning of natural causes at his Connecticut home. We rejoice in the extraordinary life he was privileged to live, and we feel grateful and blessed to have been loved by such an amazing human being. We ask that our privacy be respected at this difficult time and we thank you for your prayers.

Born in Santa Monica California in 1930, Gifford was named an All-American athlete while playing football for USC. He began his professional career in 1952, playing for the New York Giants as both an offensive and defensive player.

Football is back, but that also means Michael Owen is back – something not welcomed by some people on Twitter.

We'll kick off with this beauty: "To score a goal, for me, you need two headers"

Michael started his BT Sport commentary of Manchester United vs Tottenham in style, with a quote for the ages. One we'll pass down to our grandchildren, and one they'll pass down to our grandchildren's grandchildren.

Other than it literally being not true, it's pretty accurate.

The reason it works so well, as a quote, is the "for me", subtly inserted into the middle of the sentence as if to say: "You can have your opinions on how goals are scored, you can think what you want... but, for me, you can't score a goal without the ball being headed twice."

It's not clear if he was talking about goalkeepers or outfield players, but either way, it's perfect.

It's more likely he was talking about goalkeepers, in which case, they do actually use their feet more than they used to, so Michael is 100% correct in his analysis.

Did The Arsenal Dog Kick The Ball?

A Scientific Analysis.

You may have noticed there was a dog at the Emirates today, in fact, it was hard not to notice it.

During Arsenal's 2-0 loss to West Ham, a cartoon dog was "running" around the side of pitch as part of an advertising campaign.

This gif shows the agonising moment that the camera cuts away from the dog barely SECONDS before it looked like it was about to hit the ball.

But we can use still images of the incident to predict the eventual outcome, and answer the important question of whether the dog hit the ball.

This still is taken shortly after Aaron Ramsey made his misplaced pass in the direction of Nacho Monreal.

In fact, it is 0.48 seconds after the ball left Ramsey's foot.

Assuming the position of the ball is around three metres away from Ramsey, you can assume that the ball is traveling at a speed of around six metres per second.
